Dorothea Hudson is a multi-instrumentalist, specializing in piano, guitar, and vocals. Mandolin, blues harmonica, and ukulele are among other instruments she enjoys. She has trained and performed since a very young age, and continues to professionally perform throughout adulthood. She has over 25 years of experience. And she has recorded various compositions and covers, both solo and with groups.

Ever a Performer

Dorothea has professionally tutored guitar, piano, and vocals at Sam Ash, the Early Autism Project, and privately, for over 6 years. She loves teaching children even as young as 4, but is also very versatile, familiar with teaching all age ranges. And she has experience with teaching students with various special needs, from her time teaching at the Early Autism Project and Sam Ash.

Her lessons can be both online or in-person in her Clearwater studio. Her genres of expertise include rock, pop, classical, folk, country, blues, RnB, and more.


Education
Dorothea Hudson started private classical piano training at age 4. Milton Kidd (faculty member of American University) and Dr. Dorothea Nahm (Ph. D. from Peabody Conservatory) trained her privately from 1993 to 2007. She studied music rigorously throughout her life up through the university level, including at multiple music conservatories.

She attended the highly prestigious New England Conservatory of Music, which is the oldest independent school of music in the U.S. Her work there included study under world-renowned pianist, Stephen Drury. She also studied many instruments, including guitar, piano, and theory and composition, at the Washington Conservatory of Music.

Later, she attended Brevard College where she studied many instuments and toured Europe with vocal groups. At Brevard, she also studied piano rigorously under renowned pianist Bruce Murray (B.F.A. from Carnegie Mellon, and M.M. and D.M.A. from Yale). At the College of Charleston, she continued her music studies, and graduated magna cum laude. And she played piano in chamber performances during her studies at Cambridge University.

Dorothea’s Experience with Vocals, Piano, and Guitar

From 2010 onward, Dorothea has regularly professionally gigged as a lead vocalist, keyboardist, and guitarist. Her performances have been at larger venues that draw audiences of several hundreds, large private parties with several hundreds, outdoor festivals, and more intimate settings such as cafes and chamber performances at Cambridge University, UK.

Vocal Experience

Dorothea has sung in many settings. She has performed Christmas music at the White House in Washington, DC.

She also performed regularly in choral performances at the Washington National Cathedral from 2000 to 2004.

She toured central Europe for several months, performing with various choirs in venues that drew audiences of several hundreds. And Dorothea has professionally sung regularly from 2010 onward.

Piano Experience

Dorothea has trained classically in piano since age 4. From 1993 onward, she performed recitals annually at the DC Federation of Music Clubs.

She performed at annual Christmas piano recitals from 1993 onward. She also performed at the DC Baroque Festival in 2000 and 2001.

Dorothea also has performed in many judged and honors piano recitals from 1995 onward for the DC Federation of Music Clubs, as well as for the National Piano Playing Auditions. And while she attended Cambridge University in England, Dorothea she played several chamber performances for intimate audiences of 20 to 30 people.
